Message from the President
by Jeff Rogers ~ May 10th, 2008. Filed under: Council-Session, News.I took over as president a little over a year ago and let me tell you, a lot of things have been happening here at TLPC. We started to work on the website, to update and make it more users friendly. Although it has been over a year in the process, the new website is now up and running.
We started to have trouble with the “Together” e-mail, as we were not able to add new member to the list. However, we have taken care of that problem and now we can add members as needed.
We then started the process for chartering our church with the ELCA and the PC (USA). This task was long and hard. We first needed to obtain or create a Constitution. Lucky for us we have many friends in the church community. A church in Lenexa, Kansas allowed us to use their constitution, as they had just become a chartered church in both the ELCA ad PC (USA).
We started signing the Chartering Document during the past several months and will continue with our members who have been gone during the winter months. However, great news came that we had been accepted by the ELCA as a church and in the next few months it is expected that the PC (USA) will also welcome us with open arms.
Our church is growing in numbers as well. We have welcomed several families into our church and even baptized several children. Our newest members have all stated how welcome they felt coming to our church. This has been my goal since taking over as President. I’ve always wanted everyone to feel welcome at TLPC.
Since taking over as President, several changes have been made in the structure of the council. Once we started down the path of becoming chartered, we had to change the name of the council to “Council/Session” to cover both churches. The Stewardship position also encompasses the duty as “CFO” of the church. Lynn Rogers accepted this position.
Lynn has had his hands full since taking on these duties, as two of our long time volunteers retired from their positions. Dave Holtebeck and Gail Okano both decided to hang up their hat on the financial duties (although they have remained on until replacements could be located).
Dianne and Tim Wright accepted the duties the Dave Holtebeck covered and Jeff Hatch has accepted the duty of Financial Secretary. Lis Green has taken the position of Project Manager on the new Church Management System and is currently updating our church records so they can be implemented into the program.
Once that program is up and running, Jeff will be able to incorporate the financials into it as well. We are hopeful that the new system will be totally operational by the beginning of the New Year (2009).
YoungLife has come to Truckee and Ryan and Marea Hunter (both members of our church) run it. They just had their first banquet, held at Alpine Meadows Ski Area. It was a great turn out. Julie and I hosted a table, as did several members of our church. Ryan has indicated that by the beginning of the new school year, WyldLife (YoungLife for middle school kids) will start up. More information when it is available.
We are currently working on re-instating the newsletter; however, it will be in the electronic form (e-mail). Once we determine our members who don’t have e-mail, we will mail a copy to them. Jan Rogers has stated she will look into a new format for the newsletter, while she is vacationing in Canada. I will be keeping in contact with Jan and Lynn until their return.
Now that the website is up and running, I will attempt to stay more on top of sending out updates monthly about what is happening in TLPC and our family. I enjoy keeping all of you up to date with the happenings of every day life in Truckee. Should any one need to contact me, please feel free to drop me an e-mail at jrogman007@gmail.com. I can also be reached at home or on my cellular phone (530)386-6990.
I appreciate the confidence and support that you, the members of TLPC, have given to me during my time as President.
Sincerely Yours,
Jeff Rogers
